Packing Tips
Here is how we packed for this trip that was in mid-August with temperatures varying between 44 F to 80 F and some occasional rain. Note: If visiting Banff in winter, bring insulated clothing, snow boots, and additional gear like crampons for icy trails and ski equipment if you plan to hit the slopes.
Clothing & Footwear
- Packed a fleece, sweatshirt, or hoodie as even in summer, mornings and evenings in Banff can be chilly.
- Hiking Pants, quick-drying pants or shorts are ideal for outdoor activities. Pack a mix of short and long-sleeve shirts for layering during hikes or other activities.
- Sturdy, comfortable hiking boots or trail shoes are a must for exploring Banffโs trails. Make sure they are broken in to prevent blisters. Pack a comfortable pair of shoes for walking around town or for less strenuous activities.
- Gloves were particularly useful on our biking day, as the mornings were chilly and windy during our ride.
- Donโt forget a swimsuit if you plan to visit the Banff Upper Hot Springs or enjoy the pool at your hotel.
Gear
- Backpack - A comfortable daypack is essential. Make sure to pack it with a reusable water bottle, snacks, and extra layers while hiking.
- Travel Guides and Maps - A travel guide focused on Banff and the Canadian Rockies is useful for exploring the region. Local maps are also valuable for locating trails and points of interest, especially since cell phone coverage can be spotty in some areas.
- Health & Safety - Sunscreen, Insect Repellent, First Aid Kit, Face Masks and Hand Sanitizer.
