The baked oats TikTok trend looked so simple and almost too good to be true, so I had to try it. Luckily most of the ingredients are staples I usually have in the house so I didn’t have to wait. WOW. It may be a food trend but it was an instant classic at my house. My family loved changing up the flavors and toppings and now we have a new breakfast recipe in addition to the Overnight Oats with Chia Seeds recipe.
Baked Oats takes a super easy breakfast idea and makes it really fun. We loved discussing which flavors we would try next including the Carrot Cake Baked Oats. It’s sooo easy, there’s virtually no clean-up, the variations are endless and it’s like having fluffy, freshly baked warm cake. For breakfast!
Versatile Baked Oats
But baked oatmeal is not just for breakfast. Hitting a mid-day slump and looking for a treat to have with coffee or tea? Reach for the baked oat cake or muffins and instead of a sugar high and crash, feel satisfied and sustained until dinner.
How perfect would individual ramekins be for a brunch? Make the basic Banana Baked Oats and put out an assortment of toppings like fresh berries, yogurt, granola, sliced almonds, and maple syrup or honey. Bake chocolate chips or fresh berries or cinnamon and raisins right into the batter.
How fancy do you want to make the baked oats, how indulgent? It’s up to you!
Try warmed Nutella or peanut butter drizzled on top. Try lightly sweetened whipped cream and serve the baked oats for a light but yummy dessert. Make the Funfetti Baked Oats for breakfast to celebrate a special day.
The best thing about the baked oats trend is finding a recipe that is perfect for getting kids involved in the kitchen. Older kids can even make this whole recipe by themselves while learning to make something wholesome and really tasty.
How to Make Baked Oats
Note: A printable recipe card with exact ingredients can be found at the end of this
Step 1: Make the batter by blending rolled oats, banana, egg, maple syrup, baking powder, and salt in a high-speed blender. You want the batter to be smooth.
Step 2: Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and top with berries. I like to use fresh berries but you can also use frozen berries or any other fruit. Toppings like dark chocolate chips and rainbow sprinkles are all delicious too!
Step 3: Bake at 350 degrees F for 20 minutes or until a wooden skewer comes out clean. Depending on the ingredients you used you may need more or less time. For example, the version with flax meal takes a few more minutes compared to the egg version. Sprinkle with your favorite toppings. I like to sprinkle some powdered sugar for a hint of sweetness and it looks pretty!
Enjoy warm or at room temperature. Although I would recommend enjoying these baked oats fresh, you can also make them ahead and simply reheat them for 30 seconds in the microwave.
Serving
Serve with a light dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup. You can also add a spoonful of your favorite nut butter or chopped-up nuts. Or go crazy! Don't forget to serve it with a cup of hot chai.
Tips
- Make sure to use a high-speed blender as you want to grind the oats
- Double up the batch and make muffins. You won’t regret it! The baking time will be 12 to 15 minutes for the muffins
- You can also use the batter to make yummy pancakes
- Use a ripe banana to add a creamy texture and perfect sweetness
- I used Trader Joe’s Avocado Oil spray to grease the pan
Substitutions
- You can use quick oats instead of rolled oats. But do not use steel-cut oats
- Use flax eggs for an eggless option - whisk together 1 tablespoon of flax meal with 3 tablespoons of water
- Use honey, sugar, or brown sugar instead of maple syrup
- Instead of berries, you can use any fruit that you like. If its a fruit like an apple or peaches simply dice them small
- Top with chocolate chips or rainbow sprinkles and bake for a special treat
Storing
These baked oats stay good at room temperature for several hours. You can also refrigerate them for 2 to 3 days. To reheat simply pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds.

Hi
Thank you for all your recipes . I tired many of your recipes and recently I prepared Khari using puff pastry . It’s really a super hit with my family and friends .
In baked oats , what’s 1/2 cup measurement of rolled oats , is it 80 gms ? I don’t know where I went wrong my baked oats didn’t raise.
Archana says
1/2 cup of rolled oats will be 45 grams
Sarah says
Hi,
Your recipe looks delicious, I was just wondering how many servings it was? Is the nutrition label per serving or for the whole dish?
Sarah says
I just found the answer to my question my eyes must have just skipped over the servings area on the beginning my apologies
Archana says
No worries at all!
Archana says
It's one to two servings. Nutritional label is for the whole dish.
Shanthini Jayanthan says
Will be trying it shortly. Can I use organic Oat flour and if so do I still take 1/2 cup ?
Thank you
Archana says
yes! 1/2 cup of oat flour will work.
Shanthini Jayanthan says
Tried your cake for breakfast with organic oat flour and flax eggs. Used double the recipe and made in a glass 8x8 dish buttered it and made in my toaster oven. Came out very well. Thank you.
Aisha says
The flavor was good but unfortunately the texture was a bit mushy, despite baking in the oven for 30+ minutes. I don't know if it was because I didn't blend the banana? (I used just a bit over 1/3 cup oat flour since I had that lying around, and blended the egg and mashed banana really well with a whisk). Then I added lemon extract and frozen berries for a lemon-berry flavor. Unfortunately texture was mushy, and not very appealing 🙁 Any ideas what I may have done wrong? Should i have added more oat flour?
Archana says
Try with 1/2 cup of oats like the recipe suggest and blend everything in the blender.

I have been looking for something similar made from oat flour. But The nutrition information says the recipe makes 1 serving? Is this correct? Total carbs are a bit high for me and I'm trying to figure out if the whole recipe is supposed to be a whole serving?
Archana says
Hi Diana, It can easily serve 2 people for breakfast.
NICHOLE NEWTON says
Can you make it without a banana?
Archana says

Loved this! I swapped the berries for walnuts and cinnamon. Also, I didn't have maple syrup so used honey instead. Great texture and really easy to make. Also very little clean up after which is always a bonus. Will make again
Sam says
Awesome recipe for the family, especially great for kids!
So easy to make and we typically always have the ingredients.
Archana says
Thank you for the feedback!
Jennie says
Love this! Only knocked off a star bc the amount of maple syrup is overwhelming with the banana. I made it a second time with a tsp of syrup in a double batch, and it was enough (also added dash of cinnamon and tsp of vanilla for other sweetness.) Both kid and husband approved. love the texture and how easy this is, thank you!
Archana says
Thank you, Jennie! Maple syrup from various brands can be more or less sweet. I love your addition of cinnamon and so glad everyone in the family loves it.
Kavi says
Hello, if you were to double the recipe what size baking dish do you recommend? Would you still bake for 20min? Thanks! Looking forward to trying this 🙂
Archana says
use a 9 X 5 bread loaf pan. And please change the rating to 5 stars if you enjoy this dish 🙂
Kim says
Hi could you make it all up the night before and just pop in the fridge? and then in the morning just bake it?
Thanks
Archana says
Good question! I have not tried it but I think it will work.
Sasha says
Thank you for this recipe! I needed an easy to make lunch that wouldn’t make me groggy, and this is it! Only changes I made were adding pecans and swapping out the maple syrup for honey (I only use a tsp because I toss a few chocolate chips in lol). I have half of this every day for lunch!
Archana says
So glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your version with us.
