Tik Tok’s Yogurt Custard Toast is the fast and fancy breakfast trend of dreams! I gave this viral recipe a Ministry of Curry twist using my favorite flavor combination - cardamom, pistachio, and fresh raspberry! With the earthy, floral spice, crunchy nuts, and sweet-tart berries…the result is nothing less than–WOW.

Why We Love This Breakfast Hack

    • It’s a healthy twist on a breakfast classic. Although it is called “custard” toast, there is no cream, sugar, or butter. The greek yogurt and egg “custard” is actually light and full of filling protein.
    • The recipe requires very few ingredients for the base, but the variations are endless. The sky is the limit for creativity with flavors and toppings.
    • The Air Fryer cooks the yo in a flash so you and your family can enjoy a special breakfast any day of the week.
    • It’s super kid-friendly! For kids who love to help in the kitchen this is a fun project.

The Viral Tik Tok Yogurt Toast

If you’re looking for a quick and easy breakfast recipe that the whole family will enjoy, this is your recipe. We’ve had so much fun adding different toppings and the best part is that each person can customize their own. So far nuts, berries, and chocolate have all been a big hit at our house!

    Ingredients

This recipe uses a handful of ingredients for the base:

    • Egg - Go-to breakfast ingredient for protein and vitamins!
    • Greek Yogurt - A good source of protein and vitamins. Thick greek yogurt makes a perfect base for the custard. You can also try using low-fat greek yogurt or full-fat plain yogurt, although the custard will be a bit thinner and you may have to increase the cook time by a minute or two.
    • Bread - I loved using sliced french brioche for this recipe. You can also use artisan bread or any thick sliced bread that is not too soft.
Ingredients to make yogurt toast - berries, greek yogurt, bread, egg

    Toppings

    • Fruits - Berries work really well in this recipe - I used raspberries as they paired for well with the cardamom and pistacho flavors.
    • Sweetener - Although completely optional, you can spinkle some powdered sugar white serving or drizzle maple syrup or honey.

    Variations and Substitutions

    • The original recipe calls for maple syrup or honey in the custard. I changed up mine to completely skip the sweeteners and instead added some freshly ground cardamom for sweet floral aromas.
    • The sweet-tart raspberries and crunchy pistachios add really nice contrasting flavors and textures. We also tried blueberries, strawberries, and chocolate chips as toppings for different batches.
    • Allergic to nuts? Skip them completely.
    • Serve with a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, we enjoyed it with some powdered sugar.
    • We used the Air Fryer to cook the toast as in the viral videos, but it can also be made in the oven. See recipe notes for instructions.

    Steps

    1. Prepare the egg custard. Crack the egg in a bowl. Add greek yogurt to it and mix well. Add ground cardamom and mix.
    2. Take one bread slice and press down in the middle using a fork or the back of a spoon to make an indent in the middle without tearing the bread.
    3. Pour about one-third of the egg custard on the bread.
    4. Top it with raspberries and pistachios.
steps 1 though four showing how to prepare the yogurt toast
    • Carefully place the bread slices in the air fryer and cook at 350 F for 5 to 6 minutes. Note: Keep an eye on the bread as some of them may start browning around 4 minutes. In my Cosori air fryer, the custard is fully cooked with crispy brown edges on the bread in 5 minutes.
    • Carefully take out the toast from the air fryer basket

    Serving

I sprinkle powdered sugar on top while serving. You can also drizzle honey or maple syrup.

    Storing

Any leftover toast can be refrigerated. To reheat simply pop them back in a preheated air fryer or oven for 2 minutes.

I have not tested them but you can try with flax eggs, the cooking time will be slightly longer.
