This year, we all cooked more than ever! We made so many wonderful memories around the dinner table with our loved ones. We learned to cook and enjoy more homemade meals and to appreciate little joys in life.

I personally became more organized and efficient in my kitchen. I practiced being more sustainable by reducing food wastage and by starting to meal plan. Meal planning has not only saved me hours of time but also money. With a little bit of meal prepping, cooking becomes simple, easy, and fun.

The top recipes of 2020 include the BEST Instant Pot Biryanis that make a perfect one-pot meal. New Recipes such as my Kathi rolls and Pav Bhaji not only became an instant hit but also went viral on social media.

My Mom's 21 ingredient Garam Masala made it to the top ten list! With so many of us home this year, cooking definitely helped bring in love and comfort. 2020 also saw many of us reviving our traditional family recipes. I am grateful that my family heirloom recipes made it to your kitchen tables.

10 most popular recipes of 2020

    Here we go...

    #10: Pomegranate Juice

I literally grew up in my dad's pomegranate orchards! Little did I appreciate the ready peeled arils as a snack and the daily dose of my moms homemade pomegrnate juice. But now that I look back, I feel so lucky to have enjoyed this fruit to the fullest. And I am happy that this pomegrante juice recipe has made it to your homes too.

    #9: Chicken Karahi

Top 10 recipe for 3 years in a row, this recipe is flavor bomb. I have added stove top instructions to the original Instant Pot recipe. This way you won't miss the best homemade chicken curry. Its better than any restaurant version you have had and so EASY to make.

    #8: Handvo

Another popular recipe that stays up the popularity chart. Its a traditional gujarati savory cake made with rice, lentils and veggies. Spiced with fresh ginger and green chilies, tempered with mustard seeds, sesame seeds and dried red chillies. It's healthy and wholesome!

    #7: Mom's Garam Masala

Ok! I have to agree, this one took me by surprise! When I worked on this recipe with my mom in 2017 it was my effort to document an heirloom recipe. I never thought that thousands of you will make this garam masala recipe with 20+ spices. Thank you for all the queries, it took my mastery of spices and cooking to the next level.

    #6: Mushroom Masala

Published in March 2020, this recipe became a game changer!

It included not only the Instant Pot recipe but also an easy stove top version. Thank you for so many kind messages, reviews and feedback on this recipe that is loved by my vegetarian and non vegetarian MOC family!

    #5: Vegetable & Paneer Biryani

Another super hit biryani recipe from yours truly that is cooked in the Instant Pot and makes for a perfect weeknight meal.

It begins with a base of caramelized onions, then builds layers of flavors with aromatic long-grain basmati rice and a combination of vegetables cooked to tender perfection. Each bite is infused with delicately balanced whole spices and a bold finish with garam masala.

    #4: Paneer Kathi Rolls

A stove top creation that I am so proud of. The filling is incredibly delicious and the homemade green chutney is a must try.

Although Kathi rolls are usually made with a meat filling, I love that you guys embraced this quick vegetarian version using zesty paneer. Bursting with a mix of spices and flavors, this super easy to make dish is ready in under 30 minutes.

    #3: Egg Biryani

The credit for this recipe goes to you guys, my readers. Thank you for pushing me to develop an EASY egg biryani recipe, that is perfect for weeknights.

It has become a staple in so many of our homes! And anyone who is still wondering if the eggs overcook - they don't my friend.. trust me!

    #2: Mumbai Pav Bhaji

A recipe near and dear to my heart that always brings back so many memories of growing up in India.

Mumbai Paav Bhaji, the King of Indian Street Food, is an immensely gratifying meal, that will transport you to a gastronomical bliss. Pav Bhaji is not only a sure shot party pleaser, but also a wholesome satisfying weeknight dinner.

    #1: Chicken Biryani

Ministry of Curry's Top recipe for the 4th year in a row! This Instant Pot Chicken Biryani packs in all the authentic flavors and is ready in no time. This is also the recipe that made me fall in love with my Instant Pot.

Your Shrimp Biryani is my very favorite of all your Biryani recipes! I love shrimp (I like to add more than is called for in the recipe) and the extra-long grain basmati rice. The whole spices and garam masala make this so good. Your recipe for the Instant Pot is super easy and I have shared the link to your recipe many times. Thank you!

The Chicken Kathi roll is also amazing. The mint chutney is so flavorful. We love that recipe.
