And ideas on how to serve favorite Indian foods with low-carb sides by swapping out the traditional carb-heavy sides.

    We all love the aromatic, rich, and creamy Indian foods that use fresh produce and are flavored with bold healing spices. Although traditionally Indian food is served with rice and bread, it's easy to enjoy it with low-carb sides such as cauliflower rice, low-carb flatbreads, and tortillas.

    What is Low Carb Diet

    Low carb diet recommends foods that are low in net carbohydrates and high in protein and fat. There are several variations of this diet such as the keto diet and some others that are stricter with the amount of carb intake. If you are on a low-carb diet for health reasons I would highly recommend consulting with your doctor, nutritionist, or dietician. This recipe collection simply has meal suggestions that can help you choose low-carb meals and swap some of the high-carb sides that are usually served with Indian foods.     Low Carb Side Dishes

    Eating Low carb Indian meals is easy by simply switching out white rice or brown rice with cauliflower rice and substituting roti, naan or parathas with low carb breads. There are a few low-carb flatbreads and tortillas you can buy to substitute traditional bread. I have tried mission foods low carb tortillas, available in most grocery stores, and Siete foods' grain-free tortillas available in Whole Foods. Both of them have a delightful texture and taste perfect with all of my recipes

    Low Carb Sides

    Cauliflower Rice makes for a perfect replacement for traditional rice in Indian meals. You can make cauliflower rice from scratch at home or buy store-bought fresh or frozen cauliflower rice. Here are 3 of my go-to cauliflower rice recipes along with 2 crunchy side salads that round up meals.
